On 25th June 2026, the Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, H.E. Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, CON, led the Nigerian delegation to the HydrogenSphere Madrid .
2026 International Conference in Madrid, Spain, where global policymakers, industry leaders and investors discussed the future of the hydrogen economy.
The delegation also included Amb. Ferdinand Nwoye, Chargé d'Affaires, Mr. Ahijo Yabo Yusuf, Minister Counsellor/Head of Chancery, and Mr. Bolaji Onajala, Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister.
During the conference, the Honourable Minister reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to clean energy development and highlighted the country's ongoing efforts to develop a National Hydrogen Policy and implement its Net-Zero Investment Plan.
He also held meetings with the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to explore opportunities for cooperation in hydrogen development, technology transfer and investment.
The delegation further visited EMT Madrid's green hydrogen production and refuelling facility to gain insights into hydrogen infrastructure and clean transport solutions relevant to Nigeria's energy transition.

The meeting provided an excellent platform for high-level dialogue regarding technology infrastructure, mission critical systems engineering, and strategic tech deployment.
The delegation expressed deep appreciation to His Excellency and the HOC for their warm reception, visionary leadership, and the intellectually engaging exchange on leveraging advanced systems engineering to optimize mission operations.
Both Ambassador Ferdinand and Mr. Yusuf commended the engineers for their dedication to technical excellence and innovation, underscoring the vital role that modern tech systems play in strengthening institutional efficiency and cross-border collaboration.
The visit concluded with a shared commitment to fostering robust technological partnerships and continuous engagement.

Paid a familiarization visit to the Embassy, where they were received by the Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Mrs. B. A. Dala. The delegation included the General Secretary, Mr. Lucky Wesley Edoghogho; the Assistant Secretary, Mr. Akinsola Ayobami Ogundiya; and the Provost, Mr. Smith Obewu Onwuka. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for both sides to engage in constructive discussions on issues relating to the welfare and well-being of Nigerian citizens in the Kingdom of Spain.

The Former Honourable Minister was accompanied to the meetings by Mrs. Binta Dala, Minister Counsellor/Chargé d’Affaires a.i.; Mr. Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister; and Mr. Ahijo Y. Yusuf, Minister Counsellor/Head of Chancery.
H.E. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, undertook an official visit to the Kingdom of Spain from 7 to 9 January 2026 at the invitation of his Spanish counterpart, H.E. José Manuel Albares Bueno, Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain. During the visit, the Honourable Minister participated as a Guest Speaker at the Annual Conference of Ambassadors of Spain. The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen Nigeria–Spain bilateral relations, enhance economic and investment cooperation, and exchange views on regional and global peace and security issues.









The CDA ai and the Head of Chancery attended the Fourth Edition of CoffeeFestMadrid,
which took place at the IFEMA Madrid from February 14-15, 2026, where four Nigerian exhibitors participated. The Embassy will continue to support Nigerian SMEs in various sectors, including the coffee industry, to increase exports to Spain.
