Step 1: Complete the online application
  1. Visit the NIS portal: Go to the Nigeria Immigration Service website at passport.immigration.gov.ng.
  2. Start a new application: Select the option to apply from outside Nigeria and then choose “Renew Passport”.
  3. Fill the form: Complete the application form, providing your personal details and contact information. You will need your National Identification Number (NIN) to register.

  5. Select the embassy: During the process, select the Nigerian Embassy in Spain as your processing center.

After completing the application, you will be prompted to make an online payment. The fee can vary depending on the passport type (32 or 64 pages) and validity (5 or 10 years). The portal shows fees in USD, so check the current conversion rate.

Step 3: Book an appointment for biometrics
  1. Book an appointment online: After payment, use the NIS portal to book an appointment for biometric data capture (fingerprints and photo) at the Nigerian Embassy in Madrid.
  2. Check availability: It is advisable to check the earliest available appointment dates on the NIS website before you begin.

Step 4: Attend the embassy appointment
On your appointment date, go to the Nigerian Embassy in Madrid with the following documents:

  • Current passport: Your most recent Nigerian passport (original and a photocopy).
  • National Identification Number (NIN): The number must match the details on your passport application.

  • Other documents: You may need your birth certificate, local government certificate of origin, or other documents, depending on your situation.
  • Proof of residency: Bring proof of your legal residence in Spain.

Step 5: Receive your new passport
After the biometric capture, you will receive instructions on how and when to collect your new passport. Processing times can vary, but it’s often several weeks, so it is recommended to start the process well in advance of your passport’s expiration date.
